After having installed the work Circle of Riverstones on the Art and Architecture walk at Château La Coste, Richard Long returned to the estate in 2021 with a temporary exhibition where two site-specific installations were created: on the gallery floor, Long built an installation with stones and on the walls were two large frescoes. These works, named Mistral Days, found their inspiration in the rapid, uncontrollable movements of the Provençal wind known for its strength and intensity. The frescoes were made from red clay collected from the region around Vallauris, a city known as the capital of pottery and ceramic art in France. From antiquity to contemporary times, the soil of this village has inspired many potters and artists, such as Pablo Picasso in the 1950s. Long's work here was created almost instinctively, he himself having applied by hand the clay on the walls, giving the material movement and texture.

Following his exhibition at Château La Coste in 2021, Richard Long has produced a limited-edition print which immortalizes his mural works. By choosing to focus on one detail of his monumental frescoes, Long gives a refocused perspective of his work and his technique: the marks of his fingers in the clay are visible and almost reminiscent of brushstrokes. As for the clay material, here it appears even more organic, more textured.
