With the Falaises du Trocadéro, JR continues his work with anamorphosis that he had used for his projects at the Louvre or in Rome. He created this great trompe-l'oeil revealing a street in Paris below a large precipice surmounted by the Eiffel Tower, leading us to question ourselves on the problem of urbanization and the disappearance of nature in the city. The editions are the result of 4 photographs taken by the artist at 4 chosen times of the day. This allowed him to work on the notion of evolution, offering him the possibility of modifying the perspectives on the same immobile work.

JR's project is to photograph people he meets during his travels and then display their black and white portraits in the city’s streets in order to raise awareness and interest of passers-by. He became known to the public in 2004 thanks to his projects in the Cité des Bosquets in Montfermeil, which would then open him the doors of the international art scene. In 2016, JR was invited by the Louvre, whose pyramid he made disappear using a surprising anamorphosis. In 2017, he co-directed with Agnès Varda "Visages, Villages", screened the same year in the official selection at the Cannes Film Festival, out of competition. The film was awarded the Œil d’Or (best documentary) and nominated for the César and the Oscar in the same category in 2018.

JR creates “infiltrating art”. During collage actions, communities participate in the artistic process. In these actions, nothing separates the actors from the spectators. The anonymity of JR and the absence of explanation accompanying his immense portraits allow him to leave a free space for an encounter between a subject/actor and a passer-by/performer, which constitutes the essence of his work.

Born in 1983, JR grew up in the Paris region and was introduced to street art as a teenager before moving on to street photography in 2001. He is represented in many collections around the world such as the Elysée Museum , in Lausanne, the Museum Frieder Burda, Baden-Baden, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, the Brooklyn Museum, New York, the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
