Passionate about art and fashion, Ismael Bazri has placed 70s and 80s pop culture at the core of his work. The iconic time period serves as a bottomless source of stylistic inspiration to him, seen in his photographs contrasting colours, shapes, motifs and references.
Bazri’s work immerses us in a world dominated by the impossibility of the present confronting the past. With this approach the artist enjoys testing the boundaries between fiction and reality, reworking the usual practice of documenting by tactfully positioning and styling his subjects.

Artwork
" Château La Coste is a timeless place, mixing nature, farming, architecture and art. Through my photography I wanted to illustrate this unusual feeling, almost like magic, which a visitor feels when they walk through these woods, and come upon these artworks of incredible shapes and appearances. Combining a timeless costume, a tractor which seemed to come from the past, and “The Drop” by Tom Shannoned particularly represented this “timeless” feeling, looking like a flying saucer from the future, my goal was to make it impossible to guess the date on which the photo was taken. What period? What dimension? What reality, or fiction? The setting was deliberately kitsch (“souvenir photo” style framing, a young labourer sitting on his tractor, wearing jeans and smoking a cigarette) and the use of digital photography for the tints and colours also reinforced this feeling of being in a parallel universe that we can have when coming to this place which mixes contemporary art ancestral agricultural knowledge. “
