Clara Claus is interested in the distortion of the camera's gaze, which reinterprets what -at first- painting or drawing reveals. It was in this context that Clara Claus decided to offer Château La Coste a series of "fragments", photographic prints of very close-ups of her paintings. This series plays with the macro and the micro, reinterpreting the details of her works which then become autonomous. The materials, distended to the extreme, lose all sense of reality. With subtle games of blur and sharpness, the camera lens alters the image, reveals the materiality of the painting and plays with the relief of the canvas which becomes a motif in the image. By crossing these two views (camera and painting) with a play on scale, a new image appears, a new landscape is formed.

Clara Claus is a French visual artist who, through various practices such as painting, drawing, performance and video, attempts to revisit her inherited relationship to the invisible, to memory and evanescence, in search of the trace, the residue, and what may escape us. As a result of her practice, which is increasingly characterised by a combination of film and painting, some of the artist's projects incorporate the camera gaze with the more interior gaze of painting and drawing.
Born in France in 1985, Clara Claus lives and works between Paris and the south of France. Her work has been the subject of solo and group exhibitions in France and abroad.
