La Petite Croix Rouge edition is inspired by the artwork La Grande Croix Rouge created by Jean-Michel Othoniel at Chateau La Coste between 2007 and 2008. The miniature sculpture in red-tinted glass, which can be work as a necklace, is a delicate reproduction if the cross found next to Tadao Ando's chapel, the highest point on the domaine.
Ando speaks about this encounter as a harmonious experience:
« For the project at Château La Coste, I transformed the ruins of an ancient roman church into a contemporary chapel. (…) When speaking to our client, Patrick McKillen, I came to learn about the work of Jean-Michel Othoniel. These conversations led to the installation of his sculpture on the site. I was impressed by the ease with which it fit into the theme and concept of the building I had created. I think the work of Jean-Michel Othoniel corresponds perfectly to this place, and carries a powerful message.»

Since the end of the 1980s, Jean-Michel Othoniel has been inventing a world that ranges from drawing to sculpture, from installation to photography, from writing to performance. He first explored materials with reversible qualities such as sulfur and wax, and has been working in glass since 1993.
His current work, which comprises both public and private commissions, takes on an architectural dimension, creating installations in gardens and historical sites the world over.
Born in 1964 in Saint-Étienne, Jean-Michel Othoniel lives and works in Paris.
