Elizabeth Garouste is born in 1946, she is a French artist and designer whose work occupies a unique place in the history of contemporary design. Known for forming, with Mattia Bonetti, one of the most influential duos of the 1980s, she has, since the early 2000s, developed an independent practice in which furniture, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and masks freely interact. Her universe, shaped by fairy tales, mythology, Art Brut, and poetry, gives rise to unique pieces made from resin, wrought iron, ceramics, or plaster, in which the object becomes a character. Represented by Ketabi Bourdet gallery, Elizabeth Garouste continues to pursue a profoundly free practice today, situated at the intersection of design, sculpture, and the decorative arts.
